Lykos: I want to earn your support!
You are vital to the success of the Republican Party; I appreciate your hard work and sacrifice. I know, having been a precinct chair, election judge and a founder of a Republican organization. We are the people, who built and sustain the party; we are not opportunists who use the R for political ambitions.
I am asking for your support in the upcoming Republican Primary for Harris County District Attorney. This is a critical election—do we go backwards to the days of the “old regime”, or do we continue forward creating the best DA’s office in the nation, based upon excellence and ethics.
My opponent has chosen to personally attack me, saying I never made an arrest as an officer and never tried a jury case as a lawyer. At HPD I made arrests, went to crime scenes, wrote the offense reports and testified in court. My last jury trial as a lawyer occurred just before I went on the bench as the first Republican judge of a county court, (later I was the first Republican Criminal District Judge). The jury found my client Not Guilty. He said we have excessive turnover in the office. I took office in 2009, our turnover since is similar to that in the previous 25 years (see chart), when there were fewer lawyers; we currently have 300 ADAs.
My opponent’s reckless disregard for the truth is a snapshot of what he would be like as a DA…say and do anything to win.
When I became DA, the office was scarred by scandal, mistrusted by many in the community and had a budget deficit of millions of dollars. With the team I brought in and the many extraordinary people in the office, we restored public trust and confidence. Using sound fiscal policy we reduced the deficit and did not have any layoffs. We launched several initiatives that have made Harris County safer. Our Cold Case Fugitive Apprehension project, using technology and investigative techniques, has resulted in the arrest of accused murderers who were fugitives for decades. The Child Exploitation Section is proactive in hunting down cyber pedophiles; and we made the first arrest in the nation of a pervert who was using a game box to entice an 11 year old girl. We created the first Animal Cruelty section in Texas, which is now the model. We started a mental health initiative and our diversion programs have reduced DWI and juvenile recidivism. These are just a few of the accomplishments, achieved during the hiring freeze.
Crime is down in Harris County. We are the foremost law enforcement entity in the county and working together with federal, state and local officials in strategic planning and collaborating in task forces we are working smart. The DA’s office is both sword and shield in protecting our people.
We have won many awards such as professional excellence, and honesty and integrity in prosecution. My honor is more important to me than life itself.
I kept my campaign promises:
*To restore public trust and confidence in the Office through principled leadership.
*To build the best prosecutors’ office in the nation based upon ethics and professionalism.
*To vigorously prosecute the guilty and play no favorites.
*To combat crime by working effectively with all levels of law enforcement and community.
*To diligently enforce victims’ rights and pursue speedy justice.
*To champion a regional, independent crime lab—Commissioners Court has just approved plans for the design and construction of a new Institute of Forensic Sciences, a 21st Century, state of the art facility.
I humbly ask for your endorsement. Together we will be victorious in November!
