Judge Patricia Lykos is the first woman to hold the Office of Harris County District Attorney since it was created more than 100 years ago. Guests to the swearing-in were welcomed by the Honorable Robert Eckels, former Harris County Judge, and Reverend Dr. Charles L. Jackson, Pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and board member of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, delivered the invocation. U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Ricky Garcia and his brother, Corporal Dane Garcia, led the Pledge of Allegiance. Both men have served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ms. Ashley Johnson sang the National Anthem.
The Oath of Office was administered by the Honorable D. Gibson (Gib) Walton, the immediate past president of the State Bar of Texas. His late father, Dan Walton, served as a former Harris County District Attorney.

The Reverend Presbyter Nicholas Hadzellis, associate priest at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a former criminal and family law attorney, delivered the benediction.
District Attorney Lykos then led the swearing-in of the Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators.
Judge Lykos has pledged to transform the Harris County D.A.'s Office into the finest and most respected in the nation. She also has pledged to serve as a champion for crime victims, and to that end, has announced detailed plans to significantly expand staffing, services and assistance for citizens who have been victimized by crime. To reflect an emphasis on serving all victims, the Victim Witness Division has been renamed the Victims' Rights Division, headed by Director Michelle Permenter. Judge Lykos said that as District Attorney, her chief mission will be to seek justice for all.
